What is a 1:1 session?
A 1:1 session gives me the opportunity to find out about your pregnancy, your birth, or your general health and discuss your medical history and assess your core stability muscles so I can advise and treat you accordingly.
We’ll also chat about what you’d like to achieve from Pilates so we can be absolutely sure that Pilates is the right exercise for you. And of course you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and chat about any concerns you might have.
What does a 1:1 Pilates session involve?
If you have never done Pilates before, or you are suffering with aches and pains or have medical health conditions that make exercising harder for you then a 1:1 is the perfect place to start your Pilates journey.
You will receive 60 mins of 1:1 teaching and training that includes discussing your needs and/or problem areas. As a physiotherapist I can assess you to work out which body parts are moving correctly or not and then we can form a treatment plan together to help you improve your symptoms.
If you would like to have Pilates to strengthen certain areas of your body or work on improving your posture, a 1:1 session is a great way to do that. Often in classes, people attend with various aches and pains so classes often do not involve the more complex Pilates exercises for that reason as they are not safe for everyone.
Equally if you are out of tune with your body and can’t feel or find your core stability muscles then a 1:1 session provides you with that feedback and more intense coaching to help you rediscover these amazing muscles.
Do I need a 1:1 consultation before starting classes?
It is important to have a 1:1 consultation if you are experiencing any aches and pains in your body so that I can modify your Pilates programme to safely accommodate your needs. Also if you have medical health concerns such as diabetes, osteoporosis, pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy or a very weak core post delivering your baby then a 1:1 is the most sensible way to start your Pilates journey.
It allows me to get more insight into your medical needs and your body and I can use my physiotherapy assessment and treatment skills to advise you accordingly.
During the 1:1 consultation I will assess and teach you how to find your centre. This is essential to allow your core stability muscles to function in their optimal position. I will teach you how to find your core stability muscles, switch them on and help you to build the muscles endurance so you are safe to begin Pilates exercises. Without this essential skill, you won’t be able to perform the exercises in a safe manner.
Do I need to bring anything to my 1:1?
No, but please wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring some socks. Socks are essential for hygiene reasons as all equipment is provided. You may like to bring a bottle of water to keep your fluid levels up.
Do you provide 1:1 or 1:2 Pilates programmes?
Yes I do. These are carried out in the comfort of your own home (so no need for a babysitter if required). If for any reason your home is not a suitable venue then please contact me to discuss alternative venues.
